Kaley Cuoco recently chatted with Extra’s Terri Seymour about her new international mystery thriller series, Vanished. In the show, Cuoco stars as Alice, a woman whose world is turned upside down when her boyfriend, Tom (played by Sam Claflin), disappears during a train ride to the south of France. As Alice searches for him, unsettling clues begin to surface, leading her to question whether she ever truly knew the man she loved.

Beyond starring in the series, Cuoco also took on an executive producer role, something she says made the project even more exciting. During the interview, she revealed her long-standing love for true crime and puzzle-driven stories, joking that she’s basically “Nancy Drew” in real life. She added that her fiancé, Tom Pelphrey, affectionately refers to her as “the tea master” because of her constant curiosity.

According to Cuoco, hunting for clues and uncovering hidden details is part of her daily routine. She laughed that nearly every evening involves sharing the latest “tea,” admitting she’s always trying to connect the dots and figure out what’s really going on.

Kaley Cuoco also spoke candidly about how difficult it was to leave her then two-year-old daughter, Matilda, for two months while filming Vanished. She admitted the decision filled her with anxiety, questioning whether stepping away for that long was the right choice as a parent. Ultimately, it was her fiancé, Tom Pelphrey, who gave her the reassurance she needed. Cuoco shared that he encouraged her to take the opportunity, handled things at home, and helped ease her worries so she could fully focus on the work. She said she couldn’t have managed it without his support and expressed deep gratitude for the way he stepped in during that time.

She also explained that working through those fears was about more than just the project itself. Cuoco said she wants her daughter to grow up seeing that it’s possible to love your career, chase your goals, and still return to a stable, loving home. In her characteristically candid way, she added that Matilda wasn’t nearly as affected by the separation as she was—joking that her daughter hardly noticed she was gone at all.

Kaley Cuoco also took a moment to praise her close-knit circle of friends, especially in light of recent conversations around parenting communities. She spoke warmly about the strong support system she’s built, sharing that many of her closest friends are fellow parents. According to Cuoco, their “amazing” mom group has become a space for learning, encouragement, and shared experiences, helping her grow both as a parent and a person.

When it comes to parenting choices, Cuoco made it clear that she has zero interest in judging others. She emphasized that every child is different, and only the parent truly understands what works best for their own kid. For her, empathy and respect matter far more than unsolicited opinions.

Vanished premieres February 1 on MGM+, bringing Cuoco back to the screen in a gripping new mystery role.
